Wilderness Survival

Wilderness Survival  is a classroom presentation designed to demonstrate to students some of the techniques and skills that could be used in a survival situation.


  1. What To Do if You Get Lost
    S.T.O.P. mentality (S.T.O.P.: sit, think, observe, plan)                                                                                            
    understand the basic concepts of survival and know some survival skills
    have a survival kit
    be able to think your way out of problems
    tell someone where you will be and for how long whenever you travel in the wilderness
  2. Making Fire
    Fires provide heat, light, boost morale, can be used to cook, heat water, melt snow, dry out wet clothing, and as a signaling device. We will discuss methods for starting a fire and how a fire can be used for survival purposes.

    how to keep warm and dry
    protecting yourself from animals and bugs
    where to locate a shelter

    methods of collecting water
    purifying water
    amount of water needed to sustain life
  5. Food In The Wilderness
    amount of food needed to sustain life
  6. Survival Kits and Signals
    appropriate survival kits and their contents
    how to make effective ground to air signals
  7. Survival Simulation Activity
