Hooves, Horns, and Antlers

The Hooves, Horns, and Antlers is a 60 minute presentation that provides information on the formation and purpose of these features for the three animal families Antilocapridae, Bovidae, and Cervidae. The presentation includes a variety of hoofs, skulls, and antlers.

Content:

  • examples from three animal families: Antilocapridae - Pronghorn, Bovidae - Bison, Cattle and Cervidae - Caribou, Elk, Moose, Mule Deer, White-tailed Deer
  • hooves - what they are made of, types, various shapes of hooves and reason for these shapes
  • horns - which animals grow them, parts of the horn that sheds
  • antlers - information about shedding, growth, size, and shape.
